7th Annual ADVENTURE INTO ART, Coming This Weekend, Sept. 20-23

September 16th, 2012 by Sam Feldman

Eureka is all about art, so this upcoming weekend, Sept. 20-23, is perfect for touring our wonderful artists’ studios. Join us for ADVENTURE INTO ART, the 7th Annual Eureka Springs Artists Studio Tour.

This free, self-guided annual art event is a wonderful way to spend four cultural days exploring beautiful Eureka Springs, Arkansas. See some wonderful local artist’s work, such as Julie Kahn Valentine’s rendition of our local Carnegie library.

The 4-day event kicks off with a fun “Demonstration Day” on Thursday and continues with open studios through Sunday afternoon.

Artworks are on exhibit and for sale including original oil, acrylic, watercolor and pastel paintings and prints, pottery, jewelry, wood and metal and other fine crafts. Meet the artists in their personal work environments, enjoy demonstrations of technique and personal style in a wide range of media – plus Q & A time and lots of interaction with the artists in their working environments.

The fall weather and scenery will make this a trip to remember.

And don’t forget, this is also Jazz Eureka weekend – free jazz in the park with local and regional players. It will be a wonderful weekend – just walk right down from the Bridgeford House!

Warmest regards,

Jeff and Nadara (Sam) Feldman – and Sophie, too!

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art – Opening 11/11/11!

October 10th, 2011 by Sam Feldman

All of us in NW Arkansas and Eureka Springs have been waiting on pins and needles for the opening of the new Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. And it’s finally here – 11/11/11 will mark the opening of one of the most beautiful buildings (which is an art piece in and of itself) and one of the best collections of American Art ever gathered under one roof. The Museum was founded by art-enthusiast and visionary Alice Walton (of the Walmart family), who continues to serve as chair of the Board of Directors. In July, 2011, Walmart announced a grant that will sponsor general public admission to the Museum. However, Walmart Stores, Inc. is in no way connected to the development, construction, or planning of the Museum or the development and ownership of the permanent collection. That’s right, you can get in free! However, only advance tickets issued will get you in from the opening day until January 2nd. And only a certain number will be issued for each day. You should be able to reserve those online at their site.

The art will be divided into several different collections, including Colonial, 19th Century, Modern and Contemporary. You’ll see such works as Charles Wilson Peale’s portrait of George Washington, ca. 1780-1782, and Thomas Moran’s Valley of the Catawissa in Autumn, ca. 1862. In the Modern collection, you’ll see Norman Rockwell’s Rosie the Riveter, 1943. In the Contemporary collection, visit Andy Warhol’s Dolly Parton, 1985, and Walton Ford’s The Island, 2009. There will also be many sculpture pieces included inside and outside the museum.

Not only is the museum going to be a fabulous place to visit on the inside, more than 3.5 miles of trails will wind among streams, ponds, wetlands, native plants, and sculpture on the Museum’s 120-acre site. Some are bike-friendly and from what little we’ve seen so far, this is an incredibly beautiful venue for outdoor enjoyment. At one point on Crystal Bridges Trail is an observation deck overlooking the museum itself.

Eureka Springs is a great place to come stay, enjoy our local artists, who are phenomenal in their own right, and then pop over to Bentonville, just a 1-hour drive through our beautiful Ozark Mountains, to the Crystal Bridges Museum. And you know we’d love to have you stay with us!

Warmest regards,

Quicksilver Art & Fine Craft Gallery

October 2nd, 2011 by Sam Feldman

On your next visit to Eureka Springs, you must visit Quicksilver Art & Fine Craft Gallery.  A store filled with the beautiful works of over 120 local, regional and nationally known artists, including artist made jewelry and unique art including one of a kind wall tapestries, wildlife watercolors, photographs, limited edition prints, pottery (rustic, hand-thrown pieces fired in a wood burning kiln, gold or platinum drenched porcelain and raku fired with Ostrich feathers) in a variety of shapes and glazes, and numerous works in wood and metal.

They also have a hands-on exhibit of beautiful musical instruments on the lower level – strumsticks, gongs and chimes, brass Tibetan singing bowls and the melodious sounding Freenotes, an offshoot of xylophones, are available to play. Open seven days a week, they have an incredible helpful and welcoming staff. They always have some of the best window displays as well! (Our favorite is always their unique Christmas displays.)

The Quicksilver Gallery is a member of the Eureka Springs Gallery Association, the 2nd Saturday Gallery Walk, and the Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce and is very involved in the tourism industry here in Eureka Springs. Check out their website for their Gallery News Blog.

And guess what? Yep – they’re a short walk from the Bridgeford House Bed & Breakfast! We told you we really do have the greatest location!
