Home is Where the Heart Is

January 1st, 2012 by Sam Feldman

Winter is here and I’ve always loved this time of the year because it’s quiet. Our regular home back in Richardson, TX, was like that, too. It’s as if the world was suddenly at peace after the intense hustle and bustle of summer – the constant going, going, going. You could curl up with a good book in front of a roaring fireplace, often times with a blanket of snow outside to really deaden all the outside noise, and the world would leave you alone. There was no more secure place in the world.

Winter in Eureka Springs, AR, is like that. And life is like that at the Bridgeford House. We have had guests that have gotten snowed in that have told us that it was one of the best vacations of their lives. (Of course, we can’t guarantee it will snow while you’re here, but the cold winter chill outside still keeps us cozy as kittens inside). A good bed and breakfast can provide you that home away from home – without the hard work and clean up! A good pampering can set anybody right and allow them the the rest and peace to go back and face the world.

We love doing that for you here. Several of our rooms have fireplaces and whirlpool tubs. All of them have a coffee pot and microwave right in your room, for hot tea, cocoa or popcorn – all provided for you at your complementary (yes, that means “free of charge”!) refreshment station (including a refrigerator) – right in your room! Home-baked sweets are provided for you each afternoon, so all you have to do is wait for it to be delivered! A hot, 4-course breakfast each morning will pretty much fill you up so that you don’t even need to go out for lunch if you don’t want to. Our parlor is full of games, puzzles and movies to play on your personal TVs in your room.

And don’t let anyone tell you Eureka closes up for the winter – there is always stuff open! Most of the shops stay open all winter long (with shorter hours), there are always restaurants and local pubs that are open, as well – what do you think we locals do in the wintertime? We still have to eat and we still like to get out and have a good time. Trust me, there are still lots of spas that will provide relaxing massages. If the trolleys aren’t running that particular day, you know we’re just a few minutes walk to downtown. And when the leaves are gone from our forest of trees – a whole new world opens up! Get out there and hike through our little mountains and neighborhoods that are right here in the historic district. You’ll see stuff you never see in the summertime.

And…Sophie is always here to cuddle.

Warmest regards,

Jeff and Nadara (Sam) Feldman – and Sophie, too!

Winter in Eureka Springs

December 30th, 2009 by Sam Feldman

It’s snowed twice in the past week! Not necessarily the norm for Eureka Springs, but always a storybook picture! Eureka Springs looks like a fantasy land in the winter time, with the dark forest of trees stark against the winter sky and all the dollhouses that are revealed by the bare trees! The first time Jeff and I walked downtown after all the leaves fell in the fall, we were stunned by the number of houses up on the hills! It took us some time to figure out how to get up there but eventually we did. That was half the fun, following little paths and trails through the woods and then coming across one of the stunning Victorian houses that we had seen from down below. Those jewels are often hidden when the trees are in full leaf.

Cozy Winter

Is this beautiful or what?

There are shops and galleries open, restaurants operating and lots of cozy B&B’ing to be had here in the wintertime. Remember, three of our rooms have fireplaces and three have whirlpools, some perfect ways to spend your winter vacation. Here at Bridgeford House we have lots of games, puzzles and books and movies on site. Cocoa, popcorn, and a different home-baked treat each afternoon gives you lots to munch on and you can always get Chelsea’s to deliver pizza! And, don’t forget – we have great winter rates!

And of course, there is always Sophie to cuddle up with…

Recession Vacations

July 27th, 2009 by Sam Feldman

With the economy having the characteristics of a perpetual roller coaster, a four-day vacation to our neck of the woods (and, boy, do we have woods!) is just the ticket! Inexpensive, relaxing, fun-filled and just plain gorgeous doesn’t even begin to describe what a vacation in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, can be like.

We have found that quite a few reservations here lately have been four-day jaunts for folks that are within a day’s drive. To make the budget even happier, we here at the 1884 Bridgeford House Bed and Breakfast Inn offer that fourth night 1/2 off! You don’t even have to ask for it, we’ll just automatically give it to you. And remember what else you get that is included in your inn stay, no extra charge: A full-size, 4-course breakfast each morning (which most guests say fill them up so much they never eat any lunch – see, we save you money right there!), home-baked treats placed on your bed each afternoon (helps hold you over from the skipped lunch until dinner out at one of our many fabulous unique restaurants in town), cold soft drinks and cold bottled water in your room’s refrigerator which we replenish each and every day, and popcorn in your room for a late-night snack.

And the amount of things to do in Eureka Springs and the surrounding area are phenomenal. Just to name the top few: Shopping in our beautiful downtown historic district at truly unique boutique shops and wonderful art galleries, visiting one of our many fabulous day spas, eating at one of over 75 restaurants, attending ghost tours, canoeing or rafting on not one, but two different rivers, renting a boat on beautiful Beaver Lake or taking the lake sightseeing tour cruise on the Belle of the Ozarks, climbing through one the many caves in the area (there are five or six just within an hour’s drive and one right here in town!). Should I go on? Okay – there is incredible outdoor and free music every day in our beautiful Basin Spring Park right downtown, there is world-class fishing on Beaver Lake, complete with guide if you desire, there is historic architecture to view on unbelievably beautiful walking paths throughout downtown, incredible art to view and buy from our large and talented artistic community, there’s horseback riding, there’s a railroad with dinner and lunch rides, there’s our wonderful large cat refuge right outside of town, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, there’s…there’s too much to even do in four days! But at least come get started!

Warmest regards,

Sam and Jeff (and Sophie, of course!)
