For those of you that don’t live in a cave way out on a whole ‘nother planet, in a whole ‘nother solar system, you may have heard about a couple of things called Twitter and Facebook. You might think to yourself, “Naw, I’ll never do that, I’m too busy and too important to care about that stuff.” Oh, ye of such doubtful nature – try it, it will get you, too.
We are Twittering and Facebooking here at Bridgeford House Bed & Breakfast and loving it! (Icons are on the bottom left of our home page.) Not only can we keep in daily touch with our friends, family and guests, we can keep in touch with people we admire and people that inspire us! Check out this article (from a really cool social networking site, by the way) that lists about 25 motivational folks that we all love to hear snippets from (Tony Robbins, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Brian Tracy and some folks I never heard of but I’d like to meet!). You can also “follow” (tweet talk) celebrities that you’ll never meet (and no, you won’t find us following Paris Hilton or Snoop Dogg) but I get a kick out of David Hewlett (helloooo, Stargate Atlantis fame??) and if anyone watches that great new show, “Castle”, Nathan Fillion (star of said show) does a great job Twittering as his character, Richard Castle, under “WriteRCastle”. You get a whole little mystery to follow with his Tweets. And does anybody remember John Cleese? ‘Nuff said…
Facebook is a great way to spread the word about Eureka Springs and all its happenings. You can use a lot more characters to get your message across (I expect my grandkids to start keeping their conversations to 140 characters or less from now on…if you don’t understand that – get with the rest of the world in Twitter land!) But Facebook makes it easy for me to see photos and cute things our grandchildren are doing, since they all live in another state. We are much more in tune with them than we ever were by phone. It’s also a great way to re-connect with folks from high school and college, which was actually how Facebook started.
Give Twitter a try first. Search and start following these folks to get the low-down from a Eureka Springs perspective: “Eureka_Springs” (from the folks at our great advertising and promotion commission), “Turpentine Creek”, “featheryournest“, “SpringStCandle“, and of course the Chamber of Commerce, “ESARChamber“.
Yeah, you’ll get addicted. And you’ll love it. Trust us.
