Carving in the Ozarks

April 2nd, 2013 by Sam Feldman

Once a year, every year in April,  a magical thing happens. Incredible sculptors come to Eureka Springs to create beautiful things out of wood – with chainsaws!

For 2013, the dates are April 19-20, and it will be the 9th year this great event was held. Carving in the Ozarks typically has 20 to 25 carvers participating each year, creating a masterpiece right before your eyes. The weekend starts bright and early Friday morning, at 8 a.m., with its first event, and a second event will start Saturday morning, same time. An auction will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, where you will have a chance to take home one of these beautiful pieces for yourself. (A percentage of the proceeds from the auction goes to local charities.) There is a new location this year, so be sure to check out their website.

We’ve got plenty of room at our place, so give us a quick call. It’ll be a great time to visit Eureka Springs!

Warmest regards,

Jeff and Nadara (Sam) Feldman – and Sophie, too!

Fresh Harvest – A Unique Oil and Vinegar Tasting Bar!

March 20th, 2013 by Sam Feldman

We have a new store in town with an interesting new concept – they sell olive oils and balsamic vinegars, set up in tasting stations! And you would not believe the flavors they offer!

Fresh Harvest

Fresh Harvest has an amazing amount of information on their website, so be sure to check it out. (You can, of course, order product directly off the site and have it shipped to you, although we’d certainly rather you visit Eureka, and stay with us to check it out first hand.) But basically, they feature one of the largest, freshest selections of Ultra Extra Virgin Olive Oils, fused and infused Olive Oils and aged balsamic vinegars on tap in the USA. They work with folks that have been in the olive oil business for nearly 100 years and Fresh Harvest is able to work with farmers in both hemispheres to deliver the highest quality product, all year long.

They believe that olives are fruits and that extra virgin olive oil is like fruit juice: highly perishable, healthier and more flavorful when consumed fresh and full of amazing nutrients. They post the Crush Date and Chemical Analysis on every Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil they offer.

Go on in and meet the owners, Troy Johnson and Steve Ketchersid, who created Fresh Harvest, the one and only, and is committed to providing you with the healthiest and best products in the world at what is basically wholesale prices compared to high end stores. Their motto: Chase the Crush! Be Healthy!

We know we love it!

Warmest regards,

Jeff and Nadara (Sam) Feldman – and Sophie, too!

Gourmet Eureka

December 16th, 2012 by Sam Feldman

Many of you know that we have great shopping in downtown Eureka Springs. It’s a rare person that doesn’t buy something when they visit our beautiful downtown historic area. But one of our favorite stores is Gourmet Eureka which has such a variety of kitchen items that you’ll spend hours in there. They have an assortment of coffees, teas and jams and jellies.

Gourment Eureka in Eureka Springs, ARThey’ve got marinades, sauces and dips and wonderful regional cookbooks. They’ve got spices, sauces, soups and dip mixes. They even have gourmet items for dogs! Sophie loves their stuff – and often guests will buy treats for her and bring them back to the B&B. Once she’s gotten a taste, she always wants us to take her shopping down there.

If you can’t make it to Eureka, you can also shop online. But, of course, you know it’s much more fun to come, stay and play while you’re here. We are within walking distance of Gourmet Eureka, so if you do end up buying any of their candies and cookies, you’ll walk the calories off!

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all!

Warmest regards,

Jeff and Nadara (Sam) Feldman – and Sophie, too!

Simply Scrumptious Tea Room

June 24th, 2012 by Sam Feldman

While we always encourage our folks to park their car and walk the historic district during their stay with us, we do have some excellent restaurants out on Hwy 62 and one of those is the Simply Scrumptious Tea Room. They invite you to sit back, relax and be pampered in their charming dining room. Serving lunch each day Tuesday – Saturday, they offer a menu that is prepared fresh daily, with soup, salad, sandwiches, quiche and simply scrumptious desserts. The food is wonderful (their Chicken Salad is to die for!) and served elegantly in a beautiful setting (the windows of the dining room look out into the woods).

A Bridgeford House Bed and Breakfast favorite

In addition to being connected to a wonderful antique shop filled with some really nice furniture finds (the Gingerbread Antique Mall), Simply Scrumptious also has a wonderful gift emporium filled with vintage and garden inspired treasures. Every time I’m in there I have to keep a watch on my pocketbook because I find such wonderful things. But if your mind is strictly on food, take a few minutes to look at their menu before you go so you’ll be prepared for their mouth-watering food.
So when you come to Eureka, it’s okay to get back in your car and drive to one of our great Hwy 62 restaurants. Make sure one of them is Simply Scrumptious and tell them Bridgeford House Bed and Breakfast sent you.
Warmest regards

May Festival of the Arts in Eureka Springs, Arkansas

April 15th, 2012 by Sam Feldman

Time is rolling around once again to one of the best months of the year to visit Eureka Springs, AR – Mayfest! For the 3rd year in a row during the May Festival of the Arts, a month-long Eureka Springs invitational art show will take place at the Artifacts Folk & Fine Art Gallery, with approximately 50 local artists on display.

But this is only one of the many art happenings that go on during the month of May – that’s right, the whole month! You’re going to have a heck of a time figuring out the best time to come. Two of our favorites is the White Street Walk, which is basically a huge block party with artist’s homes opened up to the public (lots of art and jewelry for sale, also free food and drink!) and Books in Bloom, which is a garden party for writers and readers. We go every year and it’s fascinating to hear authors talk about how to write (don’t we all really want to write the next best seller?).

Of course, all of this is kicked off by one of our great street parades, the ARTrageous parade on May 5th, where you will see incredible costumes, African drumming (we have our own resident drummer from the Ivory Coast – that’s a whole ‘nother blog!) and even belly dancers. For a short preview of the parade:

By the way, part of the May Festival of the Arts – that first weekend – is “Africa in the Ozarks“, which features our local residents in a celebration of African rhythm dance, food and culture. Particularly the dancing and the drumming will get your blood flowing fast!

All month long artists are featured in our various galleries, so again, any time you might visit in May, there will be something going on! Check the May Festival of the Arts Schedule of Events to plan your visit.

Oh, and on May 19th is the Spring Garden Tour which features some wonderful gardens throughout town: private homes, churches and B&Bs – including yours truly!

All this ends up with the last day in May heading into the first weekend in June, which always features one of our most popular festivals of the year, the Blues Festival!

The Bridgeford House Bed and Breakfast here in Eureka Springs, AR, has rooms available for all of May and we even have some still available for Blues Festival Weekend, but call pretty quickly! You know we’d love to have you come stay with us and we’re within walking distance of all this fabulous fun.

Warmest regards,

Jeff and Nadara (Sam) Feldman – and Sophie, too!

Eureka Springs, AR: Ready to Get in the Holiday Spirit!

October 16th, 2011 by Sam Feldman

I know we haven’t even seen Halloween yet, but our thoughts are already turning to Christmas and the wonderful holiday look and feel that Eureka Springs has. The very first weekend in December is always the most exciting of the winter weekends. On Friday night, December 2nd, will be the Eureka Springs Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce. While we are a small town, we really know how to put on a parade and our Christmas parade is one of the best. Beautiful floats, costumes, twinkling lights throughout the area and lots of townspeople out enjoying our beautiful town. Shops will be open late and the “Living Windows” will be featured from 3 – 6, where you can see costumed characters take over the downtown windows before the parade – pure magic!

On Saturday, December 3rd, will be the 29th annual Candlelight Tour of Homes, put on by the Preservation Society. Always one of the most popular events of the season, each year will showcase a different historic neighborhood. Ticket holders can tour inside the beautifully decorated 19th century private homes in that neighborhood and the event is widely attended. The tour is from 3 – 8 p.m. and tickets go on sale on November 1st.

In addition, there are lots of other happy holiday festivities through December, so be sure to click on and bookmark Eureka Springs Downtown Network to keep abreast of all the latest happenings in our little village.

As always, just give us a call and we’ll be glad to help you in any way we can. We look forward to a wonderful and prosperous holiday for everyone!

Warmest regards,

Jeff and Nadara (Sam) Feldman – and Sophie, too!

Quicksilver Art & Fine Craft Gallery

October 2nd, 2011 by Sam Feldman

On your next visit to Eureka Springs, you must visit Quicksilver Art & Fine Craft Gallery.  A store filled with the beautiful works of over 120 local, regional and nationally known artists, including artist made jewelry and unique art including one of a kind wall tapestries, wildlife watercolors, photographs, limited edition prints, pottery (rustic, hand-thrown pieces fired in a wood burning kiln, gold or platinum drenched porcelain and raku fired with Ostrich feathers) in a variety of shapes and glazes, and numerous works in wood and metal.

They also have a hands-on exhibit of beautiful musical instruments on the lower level – strumsticks, gongs and chimes, brass Tibetan singing bowls and the melodious sounding Freenotes, an offshoot of xylophones, are available to play. Open seven days a week, they have an incredible helpful and welcoming staff. They always have some of the best window displays as well! (Our favorite is always their unique Christmas displays.)

The Quicksilver Gallery is a member of the Eureka Springs Gallery Association, the 2nd Saturday Gallery Walk, and the Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce and is very involved in the tourism industry here in Eureka Springs. Check out their Facebook page for news and information.

And guess what? Yep – they’re a short walk from the Bridgeford House Bed & Breakfast! We told you we really do have the greatest location!

Warmest regards,

Jeff and Nadara (Sam) Feldman – and Sophie, too!
