The Most Romantic Proposal

August 28th, 2009 by Sam Feldman

We see a lot of weddings here at the 1884 Bridgeford House Bed & Breakfast. After all, we live in the romance capital of the south, Eureka Springs, AR. We see a lot of honeymooners. We see a lot of anniversaries. And now we are seeing a lot of proposals!

Recently we were serving a couple of ladies in our dining room a little bit earlier than normal breakfast, because they had somewhere they had to be. They were munching quite happily, talking and enjoying our fresh-ground Columbian coffee when all of us realized that we were looking at a couple from one of the other rooms out in the garden. What was unusual about this early morning sighting out among the lush plants was that the man was down on one knee on the stone steps right by the fish pond (he had the foresight to have a patio pillow for his knee!) and she was standing above him and yep, he was proposing! We confirmed that immediately from the wide, startled eyes and the round “o” of her mouth, although we couldn’t hear what was being said.

She must have said yes, because she wrapped her arms around him like a ribbon on a birthday present. In order to do this, she had to drop her pillow that he had coerced her into taking out to the steps, on the pretense of taking her picture seated on the steps (sneaky fellow).  We had to assume all went as planned.

Of course, we all congratulated them heartily, once all the rest of the guests were seated at breakfast. (They were mighty surprised to find out they had had an audience but I think he was quite proud of himself and she was just downright giddy.)

Now, this was not the first proposal we have had at our B & B. It was not even the first one we have had in our garden. But it’s the first one I’ve had front row seats for!

Warmest regards,

Sam & Jeff (and Sophie, of course!)
