Christmas in Eureka Springs AR

Can you believe it’s almost here? Another Christmas season and it’s in the mid-70′s today! Life can be so confusing sometimes that we don’t even know what month we’re in – or what day of the week it is! So to help you plan ahead, here is some must-see calendar happenings coming up over the next two months in beautiful Eureka Springs, AR:

November 11-December 11: “A Season of Celebration” Christmas show at the Pine Mountain Theatre

November 12-December 18: The Great Passion Play’s “The Reason for the Season” Christmas Show and Drive-through Light Display

November 19-21: Eureka Springs Pantaloons and Painted Ladies Victorian Festival

November 20-21: 22nd Annual Fall Antique Show and Sale at the Inn of the Ozarks.

December 2: 43rd Annual Silver Tea at the Crescent Hotel’s Crystal Dining room

December 3: Eureka Springs Christmas parade – this is a great parade with an up-close view from our little streets – put on by the Chamber of Commerce (yep, that would be my hubby, Jeff!)

December 4: The ever-popular Candlelight Tour of Homes, a look inside some of the most gorgeous historic homes in Eureka! Quit just driving by them; come see them all decorated up inside!

December 4-10: 11th Annual Christmas at the Crescent – all kinds of holiday activities spread out over a week!

December 10: 8th Annual Christmas Ball at the Basin Park Hotel

December 11: Ozark Chorale Performance at the Auditorium

December 11: 4th Annual Sweet Treats Tour of Eight Fantastic Bed & Breakfasts dressed to the nines for the holidays – including yours truly! Come sample 16 sweet treats and take home the recipes! We have special packages for that weekend starting at $285, which include two tickets to the tour, two special keepsake ornaments to take home with you, and two trolley tickets to make the rounds to all the inns – plus, of course, one of our comfy rooms for two nights and the luscious breakfast each morning, not to mention Sophie to cuddle up with.

The Stone House – Wine, Cheese and Conversation

Jeff and I spent “date night” this past week at the opening of a charming new wine bar called The Stone House. The Stone House is located in a handsome 1800s stone building on the edge of historic downtown Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Refurbished by local artisans to a new glory, this welcoming wine bar is the perfect place to spend some down time. The original stone walls, both inside and out in the spacious courtyard, and the rustic interior so lovingly restored lend to an atmosphere that is unmatched. Our photos are a poor representation of the real thing, you simply must see this for yourself.

The Stone House features unique wines meticulously crafted by small vintners with a passion for the grape. They are  continually seeking undiscovered gems in the world of wine and the menu will change often as they unearth these new treasures.

Their select beers feature brews possessing old world qualities and traits. Reflecting the unique tastes and quirks of their production locale, these beers are an exciting mix of full, bold, refreshing, dark, fruity, yeasty, spicy – you name it. Some familiar favorites appear, as well.

Nibble on a variety of imported cheeses and treats and listen to cool jazz from their custom speakers. Relax at the gorgeous wooden bar and simply enjoy the beautiful details in this one-of-a-kind (just like the rest of Eureka Springs) hangout.

And with most of the best things in Eureka, The Stone House Wine Bar is within easy walking distance from the Bridgeford House Bed & Breakfast. What can we say – we really have a good location!

Cosmic Cavern – Guided Tours

Last week we had the rare occasion to host one of our grandsons during the week, here at the Bridgeford House Bed & Breakfast. We took the opportunity to take him to one of the coolest attractions (literally, since it was around 100 degrees the day we went) around Eureka Springs, Cosmic Cavern, just a 1/2 hour from here.

Average tour time is about 1 hour and 10 minutes. We had an awesome tour guide, named Angie, who knew everything about the cave and a ton about its history. The Cosmic has several known underground lakes, including one that contains Rainbow Trout, and the cave is a cool 62 degrees all year round. Definitely bring your camera because there are some spectacular photo ops.

Cosmic Caverns now offers their Wild Cave Tour! This tour is offered after hours and by reservation only. There are other special requirements and supplies needed for this tour, as you are going “off the beaten track”. Mud is involved, we hear.

So go see them and tell them the Feldmans sent you!

Crystal Bridges – Museum of American Art

Many of you know how incredible the art is here in the Ozarks and in Eureka Springs. Many of you might not know about Crystal Bridges, an incredible art museum being built in nearby Bentonville, just a 1 hour drive. Still in the process of being built, the building itself is a work of art. The museum takes its name from a nearby natural spring and the glass-and-wood building design by world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie. A series of pavilions nestled around two creek-fed ponds will house galleries, meeting and classroom spaces and a large auditorium. Sculpture and walking trails will link the museum’s 100-acre park and gardens to downtown Bentonville, Arkansas.

Crystal Bridges will house a permanent collection of masterworks of American art ranging from the colonial era to contemporary work. Visitors will be able to enjoy the collection within the state-of-the-art galleries and throughout the surrounding park. In addition to the permanent collection, temporary exhibitions drawn from national institutions will complement the holdings of the permanent collection and exemplify the diversity of American artists.

Be sure to go see the building the next time you’re in Eureka – it’s worth the drive! And we look forward to the grand opening of this wonderful museum.

Eureka’s Fabulous Music Shows!

If you have not been to either of our incredibly talented music shows here in town, you are in for a treat. Rivaling anything in Branson, or anywhere else for that matter, the Pine Mountain Jamboree and the Ozark Mountain Hoedown features some of the most talented musicians on either side of the Mississippi.

Mike & Dale, your hosts of the Pine Mountain Jamboree, will welcome you with open arms and serenade you with bluegrass, country, gospel and rock-n-roll. Their band is fabulous and those guys have some incredible voices! Watch out for Scott’s antics, you will laugh yourself out of your seat. And you can’t beat getting free popcorn.!

Down the road at the Ozark Mountain Hoedown, P. Nutt, Ponytail, Girl, and Granny play off the audience each night and you never know what might happen. Besides the fabulous musicians (I love a good fiddle player and theirs is world-class), their comedy will have you rolling in the aisle. They are absolutely the best at one-liners and ad-libbing with their audience, so be careful if you sit on the front row!

Don’t miss either one of these when you come visit Eureka. They are just fabulous good, clean shows. You can purchase tickets directly from their box offices or you can add them to your reservations with us online or by phone and we’ll be happy to get them all taken care of for you – either way, just go see ‘em!
